Declan Coady

Born on May 5, 2005, and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa, Sgt. Declan J. Coady was a sophomore at Drake University who joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 2023, motivated by a commitment to serve as an IT Specialist.

During his service, Declan applied his technical expertise to support his unit's mission with dedication and skill. He was stationed at a facility in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, where his contributions as an IT Specialist were vital to the infrastructure and security of his post. Known for his academic pursuits at Drake University alongside his military duties, he balanced the life of a student and a soldier with a steadfast sense of responsibility.

Sgt. Coady was killed in action on March 1, 2026, at the age of 20, during an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait. For his exemplary service and sacrifice, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His legacy continues through the lives he touched in Iowa and the fellow service members he stood beside.

"He joined the Army Reserve in 2023 as an IT specialist and was posthumously promoted to Sergeant."
